[PMA 2008] Besides the higher 14.2 Megapixel resolution, the Sony A350 is similar to its sibling the A300. The higher resolution has the side effect of slowing down the burst shooting slightly, going from 3fps down to 2.5fps. That’s the price to pay for the extra details in these photos. Check out our complete Sony A350 photo gallery.

Pre-PMA 2008 Leak : Sony Alpha A300 and A350 ?

Pre-PMA 2008 Leak : Sony Alpha A300 and A350 ?

Numerous photos of new Alpha from Sony have posted at dyxum photo forum early today. There’s no spec available on allegedly new bodies, only guess works are involved judging on the print and graphical features of the bodies.

The images shown A300 with 10.2mp, A350 with 14.2mp and both have Swivel LCD screen with a possible live view feature. Although two bodies having identical angles and lightings with only different in prints is highly suspicious to me but it is what it is, just another internet rumor and leak. All I can say at this point is the race to third spot in DSLR leaership continue. Watch out, Pentax.

Sony Unveils a whole range of W-Series DigiCams with smile shutter -- the 10.1-megapixel DSC-W170, 8.1-megapixel DSC-W150, 8.1-megapixel DSC-W130, and 7.2-megapixel DSC-W120. The first two feature 2.7-inch LCD screens and Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lenses, while the latter two feature 2.5 inch LCD screens and 4x optical zoom. All of the devices in the W-series feature the Smile Shutter technology, which means the shot will only be taken when all faces are already smiling. At the same time, the W150 and the W170 feature intelligent scene recognition (iSCN) technology, which allows the camera to choose the best setting depending upon the environment. The DSC-W120 will sell for US$200 in March, the DSC-W130 for US$230 on the same month, the DSC-W150 for US$250 in April, and the DSC-W170 for US$300 also on April.

Sony Announces Cybershot DSC-H10

Sony Announces Cybershot DSC-H10

The new 8.1mp Sony Cybershot DSC-H10 is relatively similar to DSC-H3 announced less than 6 months ago, with the exception that it uses 3-inch instead of 2.5-inch LCD display. The 1/2.5’ Super HAD is twice better in sensor sensitivity and has 6db better smear rejection ratio than a typical CCD. It’s being used in Sony’s Alpha line of DSLR cameras. The rest of the spec doesn’t look like a major improvement over predecessor H3. It’s still having the same Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens with 10x optical external zoom range of 38-380mm (35mm equiv.)

Other features include face detection, advanced sport shooting modes, movie mode up to 640x480 in 30fps and ISO of up to 3200 with optional telephoto conversion lenses. Sony says the H10 will be ready to ship around May with MSRP of $300.

Sony DSC-T300: Sony's Top Line Slim Cam [Digital Cameras]

T300_R_FrontOpen.jpgThe T300 is Sony's newest high-end slim camera, with a 10.1MP sensor, a 16:9 3.5 inch screen and a 5x Carl Zeiss 5x zoom (33-165mm). The camera can dynamically switch between five scene modes, trigger the shutter when it detects a smile, face detect with priority for adults and children, search through photos by face, improved focusing at close distance, image stabilization and a high ISO or 3200 for light sensitivity rare on a camera this small. It can output 1080p slideshows to an HDTV. $400. Unfortunately, it does use a Memory StickDuo, and that 3200 ISO rating can't be anything but grainy.

Sony is slowing their line of MiniDV camcorders this year with only two new models. The Sony DCR-HC52 features a 680k, 1/6″ CCD sensor, 40x optical zoom, and 2.5″ LCD screen. The HC52 will cost $250 and be available in February. The step-up model, the Sony DCR-HC62, drops the optical zoom to 25x but upgrades the sensor to 1 megapixel for what should be a sharper image. It also increases the size of the LCD screen to 2.7″ with a 16:9 ratio and includes a Memory Stick PRO Duo slot for taking 1 megapixel stills. Also available in February, the HC62 will run $300.

Sony DSC-S780, DSC-S750: Low-End As Sony Cams Go [Product Spam]

S780_front.jpgThe DSC-780 and DSC-S750 have lofty-sounding model names, but don't be fooled: they're low end to the tune of $180 and $150. Do Not Want.

At $180, this is not a lot of camera. For a little more, a gadget freak could hit up any other model in the line and do with a better feature set.

They've got 8.1 and 7.2 MP ratings, 3x lenses equivalent to 35-105mm and 2.5-inch screens. They do basic face recognition, have lithium ion batteries and a 1-inch profile.

Sony CyberShot DSC-H3

Sony CyberShot DSC-H3

The march of the compact mega zooms continues. Sony recently introduced a very small 8-megapixel digicam with a 10x optical zoom and optical image stabilization. Like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 and Canon PowerShot SX100 IS this camera is really targeted to folks heading out on vacation or just need a digicam with a wide range of focal lengths. Yes, we know there are 12x, 15x even 18x models available but they’re much bigger than the H3, TZ3 or SX100 IS. In fact, the DSC-H3 is even smaller than the 6x 8MP Canon PowerShot A720 IS . Since we recently tested the similarly priced TZ3 we were anxious to see which one was the better camera. Click to find out…

Sony HDR-SR11E/12E and HDR-HC9E Camcorders

Sony HDR-SR11E/12E and HDR-HC9E Camcorders

cx24220_cw_1.jpg

Catering to both the high-definition and standard-definition segments, Sony Handycam has just announced its latest line of products for 2008 with a huge range of products for both formats. These include about 13 standard-definition and 6 HD camcorders. As always, Sony is striving to deliver the best to its consumers and its latest iteration is no different.

All the SD and HD camcorders sport Sony's unmatched technologies like Face Detection and D-Range optimizer, ClearVid CMOS sensor with Exmor and BIONZ processor, and the Super SteadyShot Optical Image Stabilizer. The ClearVid CMOS sensor together with Exmor technology reduces noise and increases sensitivity resulting in ultra-high-resolution images. The powerful BIONZ processor, which was already incorporated into Sony's Cybershot and Alpha digital cameras, has now made its way into camcorders enabling faster signal processing. Also, both SD and HD camcorders offer different storage solutions, giving users a choice of onboard HDD, Memory Sticks and 8cm DVD discs, or both.

The HDR-SR12E, topper of its range, is of the HDD variety with an incredible 120GB of storage and can shoot video for up to two whole days. Browsing through that much of footage is made easy with the handy Film Roll Index and Face Index. Both the HDR-SR11E and HDR-SR12E

Its ample offering of 13 SD camcorders all feature hybrid movie recording to Memory Sticks and also 40x optical zoom with Carl Zeiss lens, bringing those long-distant shots much more closer. All of these features add up to render exquisite, professional-looking homemade videos, almost matching other high-definition camcorders.

Moving on to the high-definition side, Sony's new crop of 6 HD camcorders offer video recording with a never-before-seen resolution of 1920x1080, perfect for watching them later on your HDTV. They now have 10-megapixel still image quality competing directly with top-end digital cameras out there. Additionally, Sony's AVCHD HDD Handycam comes loaded with up to 120GB of onboard hard-disk storage, facilitating long hours of recording up to a staggering two days. On the other hand, AVCHD DVD version lets you record high-definition videos onto Memory Sticks and 8cm DVDs. The ability to burn movies directly to 8cm DVD discs eliminates the need for a PC or other recording devices.

There is no information on pricing or availability yet, but here are some pictures to keep you going.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730 compact shooter pre-announced for CES

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730 compact shooter pre-announced for CES

Sony's got a new basic camera in the works to flesh out its line of compacts. The Cyber-shot DSC-S730 brings 7.2 megapixels of resolution, a 2.4-inch LCD, ISO 1250 and 3x zoom. The high-ish ISO is ostensibly there to fight camera shake, but we'd rather Sony sprang for some image stabilization -- we get the basic specs, but why not toss in some extra silicon to sweeten the package? As it stands, we'll need a bit more info before we can really differentiate this new camera from Sony's DSC-S700 from last year, but we'll be finding out soon enough when Sony debuts the S730 in January. So far only a Europe launch is confirmed.
